It’s Time To Say Goodbye… And Welcome In A New Owner!

I want to start off by saying how much this site and my readers have truly meant to me over the past 3 years. Since starting the website in 2010 I had no idea it would grow to what it is today… nor did I know how attached I would get to so many people I’ve never actually met! This website has not only been a pure passion for me but a wonderful release when I needed to ‘get away’.  Also a place not only to share the best deals I find but to also connect and get advice from so many wonderful people.

I honestly appreciate all the readers, new and old, who have shared in chats on Facebook… check the site daily for deals and have shared in my passion for Thrifty Wifey and saving money. And that is why this decision I have made has taken me 6 months of struggling, debating and many many many late night conversations with the hubby as to where I want to go with everything.

Since having our first baby in June, Chloe, life has been rather stressful in my household to say the least! Raising a newborn I have come to realize that being a stay at home mom requires so much work if I want to really be there for my little girl, and I do. I have an amazing opportunity not many women are blessed with, I get to stay home and be there for my baby girl 24/7. I get to be the one to see her very first steps.. hear her first words and spend time just playing with her and being mom. It is an amazing blessing and one I don’t want to take advantage of in any way.

Having her has also made me realize not only that I want to be the best mom I can for her.. I also want to give her more than I ever had (doesn’t every parent?). Which is why I’ve also decided to go back to college and get my degree so I can give her the best life I possibly can. So as you can see.. going to school.. being a full time mom and also running my other passion of graphic design at PixelMeDesigns.com I have had to come to a decision and let the website go.

It is NOT closing down, in fact I think it will be a hundred times better than it ever was! A wonderful lady is stepping in and taking over who has a passion for saving money and is truly a genuine person who I trust to take very good care of you guys! I will not disappear completely, I will still be helping her post deals and chat on Facebook every once in awhile but I am taking a major step back and letting someone else continue on in my place.

I have pondered with this decision for months and my heart feels at ease with it, I feel like it’s time to take that next step in life and give my little girl everything I possibly can which is going to require a lot of work and time with raising her and going to school. I want to thank you all for being there and reading and checking the site daily and I hope to continue to be able to chat with you from time to time and share a few deals here and there! But I know Jenetta will be an amazing person to run this site and I hope you guys enjoy all she has to offer and the amazing things she will no doubt do!

Hey all!!

My name is Jenetta and I have known Laura for about a year now from the blogging world.. she is one awesome person!! And I am so glad she is staying on to help me out at Thrifty Wifey.

So, let me tell you about myself.. I am married and a mom of two adopted daughters from Foster Care.  They are 6 and 7 and have been with our family for over 3 years.  It has been a roller coaster ride.. but that said I am still a big advocate for foster adoption and adoption in general.

I have been thrifty ever since I could remember.  As a child I was always going to yard sales, looking for deals at stores and heading to the clearance aisle.  As a teenager not much changed, only the stores I shopped at!! Even in college I was on the look out for coupons and deals.

When my husband and I married.. the wedding was definitely budget and coupons were used..lol.

So in 2008 I took the plunge and started blogging over at Frugal Freebies and Deals in order to share my thrifty ways with others. So I am super excited to start sharing all those deals, coupons and freebies over here, too at Thrifty Wifey with Laura.

I am looking forward to our journey together!

Jenetta

Just Say No to Skinny Jeans

Before anyone freaks out….I’m a plus size woman, my hubby loves me so I love me. I have learned to deal with my curves and embrace all the “extra” I have to offer. However… there are certain things that should not be made in a plus size. Period.

I went jean shopping yesterday… just looking for a regular pair of jeans. I’m already hard to fit because I don’t like any sagging or muffin’ tops, so I am extremely picky. I had an awesome sales lady who somehow convinced me to try on a pair of “skinny jeans”. At first I was skeptical, all I could think was I sweat enough during the summer… do I really want something that clings to me?! But I gave in and tried them on.

I am typically a bad shopper anyways when it comes to looking in the fitting room mirror but this was beyond what i’ve ever seen before. Every flaw… every “dent” was practically magnified. Not only that.. but I could not breath or even move. I felt like my legs were covered in paper mache just waiting to dry. It was not cool at all.

I sucked it up and walked out of the dressing room to see the larger mirror. Why? Apparently I wanted a better look at all my flaws in those pants! the sales woman loved them and ooohed and awwwed over it. I just wanted to be sick.

Needless to say.. my shopping trip was over. I’d seen the worst of the worst and there was no going back. On my way out I looked at the sales rack one more time and saw some lovely “booty short”… but I won’t even go there.

Skinny Jeans should have a limit and i’d say that should stop at a certain size and gender (ahem). Just my opinion.

Our 4 Year Wedding Anniversery!

Four years ago today I was nervous and shaking as I walked down the aisle, I had no clue what was ahead of me but I knew I was willing to go on the journey with just one man.

This has proven to be the hardest but the greatest experience of my life and I wouldn’t change it for anything. All our ups and downs have made us stronger than ever and I can honestly say I am more in love with him than the day I said I Do.

He is not just my husband but my best friend, the one person I can look to and know he’ll be there. He is an amazing man, a wonderful provider, a gentle spouse and a Godly man.

I can boast and say I have found one of the good ones and I am never letting him go.

Alzheimers

Alzheimer’s disease: a progressive form of presenile dementia that is similar to senile dementia except that it usually starts in the 40s or 50s; first symptoms are impaired memory which is followed by impaired thought and speech and finally complete helplessness.

As  I sit here and work on my site, after a long night of uncomfortable sleeping on my mother’s couch, across the room there is an amazing woman. You wouldn’t know how amazing she is by looking at her, most would just see a fragile old woman asleep in her hospital bed, looking malnourished and on the brink of death.

I see that woman but I also see the woman who used to take walks with me around her neighborhood, bribe me with nail polish to stop biting my nails, poke at me and play with me, offer me ice cream 3 times in a night because she forgot about the first two times. I see a woman who raised an amazing daughter who i’m proud to call mom.

My Couponing came back to bite me in the butt

This Post May Contain Affiliate Links : Disclosure Policy

My hubby has taken over our checkbook to take some of the load of the household stuff off of me. At first I thought I would enjoy it and then I realized…. hes’ going to scrutinize every receipt I give him! And I was right, he does. I make an online deal purchase or $5 and he wants to know every little thing about it, which is fine, it holds me accountable. But now… now it’s gotten even worse.

You know those grocery trips you make that aren’t super duper great? You know the ones…. there’s no huge sale on anything you want so you buy a lot of the basics bread, milk, brownies because you have a sweet tooth, etc etc. Well he scrutizines those the most!

He has gotten so used to my couponing that he looks at how much I save before he even looks at how much I spent. I stopped at Kroger this week and spent $5 for some drinks and a quick lunch and saved .10 cents and he was shocked. Then I went to Publix for some of our regular groceries during a not so hot week and spent $30 and saved $34… yeah, his response? “You’re slacking aren’t you honey? You only saved half!’

Yeah…. I guess this is when the couponing comes back to bite you in the butt? He’s gotten so used to the “big savings” that it’s just obsurd that I only saved half and not more.

I’d like to see him go save some money at the grocery store…. just sayin’.

Vlog: What’s in a Stockpile? Video of Mine & More!

This Post May Contain Affiliate Links : Disclosure Policy

I decided to share a video of my stockpile to maybe show some beginners or those interested what a normal stockpile looks like. Most people don’t have 3 rooms full of products nor do most people need 3 rooms worth of products. You only need what you can actually use and use before it expires. So here’s a video of my simple stockpile…

Few key points I want to touch on :

  • You don’t need to buy 50 of one item, most sales circulate and it will come again in a month or more. Only stock up on what you need.

  • Don’t clear the shelves, this is my biggest pet peve with couponing. Always remember there are others shopping behind you that may need the product(s) and everyone needs to be considerate.

  • Your stockpile should not be a competition, it’s your own personal stock with items you and your family use. If you don’t use or need a certain product don’t buy it just because you can or you have a coupon.

  • Do not let coupons or your stockpile overrun your life. If you’re spending more time on your coupons and free products than you are with your family or friends then it’s no longer a healthy and thrifty hobby but an obsession.

Along with my own stockpile I had some readers send me photos of theirs to share! I love to see people stockpiles and I imagine you guys will too. (click on the image to expand)
